so precious – omaha baby and child photographer

How absolutely precious is my 2nd cousin Grant?! Believe me, he’s as cuddly as he looks! I wish I could hang out with him and his mama every day. You’ll notice here that he loves tickle parties in addition to cuddles, the best combination at 4 months old! I just love watching him grow more handsome during his first year of life. He’s definitely got a serious side as well – and I’m so happy to have captured both this past week!

blue jean baby – omaha family and baby photographer

I’m so excited to share one of my first family sessions for the springtime with you – and oh how much fun we had! I absolutely love meeting families who have just welcomed a new addition to the family, especially after they’ve had a few months to get to know each other and the little ones have so many new discoveries going on each and every day! You’ll notice baby Mason’s big sister is already pretty comfortable and happy with the new family member as well, and I’m sure she still enjoys a little spoiling now and then as well! I’m so happy to have met this sweet sweet family for Mason’s first family picture!

a sunny gift – omaha child and family photographer

First of all – Happy Earth Day to you all and happy b-earth-day to my adorable and amazing little sister! I think it’s no coincidence that my sister was born on Earth day and happens to be the most ecological-minded person I know. She’s so inspiring and thoughtful in all of her actions, when I call her my “hippie sister” it’s with pride, love and admiration for her unique personality. Both of my sisters remind me with each minute we spend together that we were put on this earth to love and inspire one another – and somehow the way we go about that always involves quite a bit of laughter.

My family and friends are my biggest inspiration, and the opportunity to contribute a gift that may inspire other families by showcasing the love they share while capturing each piece of personality is a pretty amazing one that I just can’t pass up! Here’s a peek at the special package that I’ve put together for a few local charities over the past couple of months, including the Sunshine Kids Fundraiser hosted by Prudential Ambassador Real Estate this Thursday, April 25th, and the First Annual Charity Golf Event, benefiting the Children’s Hospital in Omaha, hosted by Aerotek on Friday, May 10th. I hope you’ll help me in spreading the word about these wonderful coming events that will both benefit amazing, deserving families and children.

just for fun – omaha child photographer

I just discovered the cutest iPhone app this weekend and HAD to share the new face of “Jess’s iPhone”! The app is called CocoPPA, and while it’s not the most user-friendly (I hate to admit I spent an hour of my life on this), I love the result! There are a ton of icons to choose from that you can set up to link through to your apps or to webpages (like a bookmark). I have an obsession with all things adorable, from file folders to water bottles, so of course this is a perfect fit! If you decide to take the time, I hope you’ll add a sunnyheartphotography.com bookmark – why not!?

food for thought: cooking with quinoa

i have a confession: while i’d love to share delicious recipe success stories with you each and every week, i must admit that much of my success ends the moment i hit that PIN button! in fact, this is the my third attempt at sharing some yumminess with you, but i promise you it’s a great one! you see, i’m not the chef in this household, and while i have fun reminding danny that i don’t need any practice as long as i’ve got him around, somehow there are still a few nights that he doesn’t mind eating a meal doused in sriracha hot sauce (his remedy to my cooking – and a fine one i might add!) in exchange for relief from the kitchen.

my new obsession and go-to meal is so quick and easy, and at the same time allows me so much creativity that i don’t think i’ve made it the same way twice! i start with a bag of frozen organic, pre-cooked quinoa + vegetables from whole foods. this isn’t cheating to me, it’s insurance! after that comes the creative part depending on what fresh vegetables and other ingredients we have in the fridge. here are a few ideas:

- fresh mushrooms
- corn (fresh or frozen)
- fresh asparagus
- onion
- black beans
- fresh tomato
- peas
- fried egg
- pork sausage or chicken
- tofu
- avocado
- a dash of shredded cheese

almost any combination of the items above is sure to make a delicious meal, and believe me, i’ve tried them all! in this case, our fridge was a little bare, so i cooked up a couple bratwurst sausages and sliced them into bite-sized pieces, while mushrooms and corn sautéed together in the frying pan. After heating the quinoa in the microwave, I added it and the sausage pieces into the pan, added some sriracha hot sauce (another household staple here and certainly optional!) to the mixture, and gave it all a good stir! for an added flavor kick and improved texture, i add some plain greek yogurt to my portion of the meal and enjoy!

i can’t make any promises on when i’ll share my next cooking success, but i’ll be sure to share more fun tips and ideas here on my blog and monthly newsletter.
